Meet the Small Wonders Team

Mike Andrews - Nursery Manager

In 2008, Mike decided to volunteer at his daughter's Nursery and immediately fell in love with the Early Years environment. A year later he was studying to be an Early Years Teacher and it became his dream to open his own nursery.

Mike and his wife, Emma, found the perfect location in Newquay: an old hotel with a big garden, and set about converting it into a home away from home for their little customers, opening for business in April 2011.

Mike's main passion is outdoor learning and is currently undergoing his Forest School training.

“I’m never happier than when I am in the outside with the little ones. There’s something incredible about the wonder on a child’s face when they see a carrot come out of the ground for the first time!”

Izzy Parkes - Deputy Manager

Izzy joined our team in 2014 as a member of the Red Butterflies. She then became the Red Butterflies room leader before progressing to management in 2017.

Stef Goodson - Deputy Manager

Stef has been with Small Wonders since 2011. An experienced nursery leader and mum of two, she is passionate about childcare. Stef ran the Red Butterfly room as supervisor before joining the senior team as Deputy Manager in 2016. She loves seeing children develop and finding their place in the world, as well as offering support to parents and staff.

"I love meeting new families and helping children to grow and develop in our care.”

Emma Andrews - Nursery Nurse

As a mum of 2, Emma had always been fascinated by children's development so opening a nursery and working with children provided the perfect opportunity to learn more. Emma studied at Truro College and completed an Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 in Children and Young People’s Workforce.

Emma has developed the Nursery Menu and recipes in line with the Nippers Nutrition Programme. With Emma’s hard work and determination the Nursery achieved Level 5 status in 2015.

“I love working with children, getting to know each personality and watching them develop into fascinating little people, all so unique!”
